2018 has claimed its first victim. As stated in a post for: “Trion Worlds and Bluehole Ginno have come to the mutual agreement to bring Devilian to a close.”For those who are sticking around to play, Trion Worlds has enabled bonus experience, gold, gems, Enigma keys, and flower drops until the shutdown occurs on March 5 at 3:00 p.m. Players can no longer purchase the Patron Pass, and anyone with a current subscription will have it renewed for no charge at its expiration. If you have credits sitting on your account, all items in the cash shop are 70% off. Alternatively, Trion is offering Devilian players the opportunity to transfer their credits to purchase items in the company’s other games. Qualifying accounts should receive an email from customer service within the week. It’s not too surprising to see Devilian shut down, as it was clearly the weakest of all of Trion’s offerings. SteamCharts only lets you compare four games at a time; Trove is a clear #1 for the company, while Rift is at #2, slightly ahead of the #3-#5 games. So how does Devilian look?Yes, Trion Worlds has its own launcher that isn’t accounted for in these numbers, but if these numbers are even remotely indicative of Devilian’s population as compared to the rest of Trion’s games, its closure is a no-brainer.

Its a good game however becomes an instant quitter for many players, including myself, due to the immediate grind-fest upon the end game. Yes, MMO can be grindy at times, but too much of grind like this one really isn’t worth the staying.
I blame TRION for not overseeing this problem ahead of time instead blindly brought over a-typical eastern game over to the west with little or no modification for the western audience. This game had a potential to be fun and yet ruined by the publisher, like many of its predecessors. Or maybe it was meant for the cash grab from the start. Anyone of those games are in the red as the player base is pretty poor in all of them they are hanging by a shoe lace themselves. In regards to Trions launcher its the worse cpu eater ever & they got not brains to or intentions to fix it.I would of thought Trion would be the one to be shutdown. As its not the games fault its the companies handling and mismanagement of those games.Trion are just so lucky they grabbed a Minecraft clone to prop their backsides up but even thats not enough to help with the companies reputation in the game babysitting arena.

I saw that Devilian went out of beta into release in the past day or so. Anyone playing it? Anyone have any insight from the beta that just ended? In case you’re not familiar with the game, it’s a F2P Diablo clone of sorts. Published by Trion, the guys who published Rift and ArcheAge. This wasn’t on my radar, but I saw a few videos today and it seems like it’d be worth trying. The game has four classes, though the amount of customization seems a bit limited. Other features include PVP of some sort, Crafting (seems limited), Dungeons (3 person, about 10 minutes long, and the game provides a Dungeon Finder tool), and ‘MMO-like quests’ (which seem to be of the “kill 10 Murloc and return to me for 10 gold” variety). You’re also part Demon or something, so you can transform into some sort of super powerful form for a little bit every so often (I do have a way with words, don’t I?).
I’m not sure if there’s any sort of endgame content or progression once you hit level cap.The game can be downloaded and played through Trion’s launcher, Glyph, which seems like a poor man’s. It’s also available through Steam, though maybe that’s just a frontend for downloading Glyph. You need a free Trion account to play. One interesting feature in the game is that the free accounts are somewhat limited - features that appeal to bots and currency sellers are restricted until you spend a little cash on a booster pack from Trion (I think if you’ve previously spent cash on a Trion product your account gets upgraded automatically). The cheapest booster pack is in the neighborhood of $5.00 so it’s not a terribly obnoxious requirement. Free accounts are restricted in these ways. 'Devilian Devs':In an effort to improve player experiences and defend against botters or would-be spammers, we have prepared some preventive measures that will arrive in time for testing during our future Closed Beta Events. Our dedicated Devilian Team plans to prevent some of the common issues you might encounter in Free-to-Play games through a verification process for all Devilian accounts.
We do not implement these kinds of changes lightly, but our team would like to make sure your Devilian experience is uninterrupted by botters and in-game spam. Free accounts will have limitations on the types of interaction they can have in-game, but these will not prevent you from playing with friends. By verifying your account, you can establish yourself as a Core Account owner and a 100% Certified, mostly organic human being!Remember: If you have already made a purchase on any Trion Worlds game, you’re already a 100% Certified Core Account owner. Without verifying your account, you will still be able to interact with friends, but your interaction with other players will be limited until you have made a purchase (any purchase!) on your account for any Trion Worlds game.Until you’ve been certified as 100% human:. Your in-game megaphone will be a muted-phone, because it is disabled. Indoor voices, always!. You can only whisper with friends.

You will be able to purchase wares from the auction house, but you won’t be able to sell your own. You can’t initiate trades in-game, but you can always agree to them. Our postman will deliver mail to you, but won’t be able to accept your outgoing letters. You won’t be able to request marketplace items from strangers, but you can always send pleas to your friends.I’m not sure if the game is fun or has any staying power, but it shouldn’t take a lot of investment, so I have put it in the “check it out” pile. Razgon:Im pretty sure I am never going to play this game, due to its problematic depiction of females. I thought we were over the scantily clad, very young, no armor at all depiction of women in games these days?
Even IF the game is aimed at 12 year old boys, its still a problematic message and gender portrayal. It’s not aimed at 12 year old boys. It’s behind an age gate on Steam and the ESRB has given it an M-rating. Furthermore, it’s a Korean game, where there are very different cultural values. Guys like you have successfully cowed Western developers into thinking they can’t overly sexualize female characters anymore.
Until you’re ready to take on Korea and Japan, you can now move on to tackling “problematic messages” in R-rated movies, TV shows, books, and various other media that have matured enough to have content for adults. You should probably start with, oh, I dunno, beer commercials, Sports Illustrated magazine, and old Russ Meyer movies.
Good luck!I, however, will join you in not playing Devilian because my eyes are pretty much incapable of reading past the free-to-play bullet point.-Tom. Yep, and I was there with you the whole time.
The point is you can ease up now. Western videogames are doing a great job with female characters. But aren’t some of them allowed to be R-rated just like some movies are allowed to be R-rated? Or are you on a Sarkeesian style quest to cleanse the entire medium of hypersexuality?

In which case, you’re a hypocrite if you don’t also decry violence, so make sure to bring that up in every thread about a game that has violence! White knighting is a full-time job!-Tom. I don’t much like violence in extremes either, as I remember noting in the very first Tomb Raider reboot, which I thought off as a Lara Croft torture machine at times (All the gruesome deaths).
I guess I react more to extremes, as I find games like this one to be.I dont mind sexuality in games, as I enjoy it just like most other people - I just think we can do better than the above kind of imagery - I understand different values in different countries, and I guess I should take that into account before crusading. And yes, western games have great heroines in many games today - Yay for that!Anyways - Sorry to take up the thread with this, and I’ll butt out of it now, and stop being disruptive.Aww - you edited your post to include white knighting. Now I’m sad, since I though this was a decent discussion.:-(. Charlatan:The game can be downloaded and played through Trion’s launcher, Glyph, which seems like a poor man’s. It’s also available through Steam, though maybe that’s just a frontend for downloading Glyph.
You need a free Trion account to play. When Glyph was initially released, you could avoid it by running a game executable directly. They “fixed” that at some point. I don’t play any of their games through Steam, but my understanding is that you still end up at the Glyph launcher even running it through Steam, much like Sony properties still launch their game-specific launcher/patchers.
(Glyph is the patcher for all Trion games.). Sharaleo:Diablo 3Torchlight 2Grim DawnPath of ExileZombasiteThe Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 1, 2, 3Victor VranMarvel Heroes if I need F2PYeah, can probably skip this for the moment.Edit - I realise that’s not particularly helpful, but there is not really anything in the blurb for Devilian that piques my interest when I have a bunch of other stuff for an aRPG fix.Torchlight 2 has a hugely extended life with mods, I replayed it with the Synergies mod, and couldnt believe how much had been added.Van Helsing Final Cut came out in Nov, its all 3 put together. I picked up number 2 (thinking they werent part of 1 long story) and really enjoyed it.Grim Dawns next Act is due any day now. Was working way through with the shaman when AW came out.Victor Vran was 50% off this week, so bought it. All ive done is run to first checkpoint though.Diablo 2 was patched the other day, they reset the ladder.
Amazed they still support it. I have a feeling i actually prefer it to 3.Will avoid replying to Razgon, because this is the games forum, not the politics forum. Fab boobs on those first 2 chicks though. Will avoid Devilian because F2P.

You’re worried about women being sexualized, but not people getting their heads cut offerrrok. Our cultures obsession with sex, in contrast to its complete acceptance of violence is really disturbing.People having sex, X rated, 100s of people getting their heads blown off and dismembering? That’s an R rating. You could also make the case for any male paradigms used in video gaming.
Why does every male protagonist have to look like Rambo on steroids? Video games in general are about a hyper version of reality, so singling out one aspect of them is a bit of tight rope to walk.
I’m not offended by asian-styled hypersexuality, I just find it childish and tiresome. In other words, it’s simply “not my thing”. There’s a difference between preferring more realistic proportions and insisting they should be banned. From his post, no reason to assume Razgon was on the wrong side of that line. I think it’d be pretty sweet if all games conformed to my specific preferences too, because I’d enjoy them more.Of course if the game was awesome, I could see past it. Given that this is a F2P action-RPG MMO, both Path of Exile and Marvel Heroes exist and are confirmed awesome, and I haven’t even touched those in years, I think I’ll probably pass for now.
Ultrazen:You could also make the case for any male paradigms used in video gaming. Why does every male protagonist have to look like Rambo on steroids? Video games in general are about a hyper version of reality, so singling out one aspect of them is a bit of tight rope to walk. Not really. The argument is that the typical “Rambo” male protagonist’s appearance, like the typical female character’s sexualized appearance, is part of the same male power fantasy.
It’s designed to serve the male ego, hence the guy is a super-strong unstoppable hero, while the women wear chainmail bikinis. Not that there’s anything wrong with that by itself. I don’t usually want to play a game as a married mid-40’s desk jockey nerd playing videogames.
I want to play a hero with cool powers, kicking ass and saving the world. That said, my options for playing a game as a badass are pretty much unlimited. Which brings us to the other half of the complaint which is that there aren’t a lot of options for a female to play a female hero.
(Note that in this argument there is a difference between playing a character like the current Lara Croft - a sensitive, realistically proportioned and capable young woman doing heroic things - and playing as a Coppertone bikini model with a gun.)At least, that’s how I understand the Sarkeesian complaint. And spidey in comics, like the wimpy ditko spidey.I’m not saying they’re for women either because i don’t know. But indiana jones, han solo, dirty harry, keanu in the matrix, strider in lotro, mad max, john mcclane, vincent vega, don’t fit that mold. You’ve really only got schwarzenegger and stallone as truly mainstream meatheads, but i think if you ask most dudes would they rather be terminator or clooney, they’d pick clooney. Here’s some male-catering images for you.
